The pieces were cut using my AccuQuilt GO!Big and Qubes, as well as the 2-1/2 inch strip die and 8-1/2 inch square die. Mattie) using a light gray Glide 40 wt thread with Bottom Line for the bobbin, and Quilter’s Dream 80/20 batting. The next line, 'Pocket full of Posies,' has another meaning. A Schmetz 80/12 needle was used for piecing with my favorite Aurifil thread. The opening words, 'Ring around the Rosy,' represent the skin lesion associated with the disease that appears as a bright red, or rosy, ulcerated spot surrounded by a ring. IT ends in all the participants falling down to reference death. This song is thought to reference all of the symptoms and treatments for the plague. I used blenders and basics (Tea Rose, Geranium, Bubblegum, Sangria, and Azalea for the rosebud blocks, Leprechaun, Frog, Grass and Honeydew for the modified log cabin blocks, and lavender cornerstones) all of which can be purchased year round at your local quilt shops that carry Island Batik fabrics. Ring Around the Rosie is a British folk rhyme that emerged during the bubonic plague, also known as the Black Death or the Great Plague. I thank Island Batik for generously providing the gorgeous fabric for this quilt. Ring Around the Rosie was designed using EQ 8 software and measures approximately 93 x 93 inches. I created this label for it and will get it embroidered and sewn on tomorrow or Saturday. Finally a gorgeous, but hot, day for photos! We just weren’t tall enough (and we are 5’11”) to hang it at the top of the fence! I think you can see it well here, though. Today we were able to swing by the park on the way to Braden’s karate belt test and get a good pic. A suggestion is made that the nursery rhyme, A Ring Around. ![]() I hope they do well with it and teens who might not be able to attend will have an inspiring trip because of monies raised with this quilt. The history of smallpox is recounted through the eyes of those who bore witness to its terrors. The tickets are two for $5 or five for $10. This ubiquitous nursery song uses the sol, mi, and la syllables in much the same way as A Tisket, A Tasket. I really love how it turned out! The youth will benefit from the sale of tickets for their camp this summer. This fundraiser quilt for my church was fun to design and make.
